Wooden Candlesticks
Christmas Collage
Happy Thanksgiving! I will be back with more, next week!

Month for Thanks...........

I am grateful for this fountain, and the beautiful park that goes with it. I am grateful for the company of friends and the tradition of a picnic on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I look forward to this outing a couple times of year. I am grateful to see Haley my friends daughter home from college, for the first time since she left this last summer. She has grown and changed in so many ways, college has been good to her. It was hard watching her go, seeing her family miss her. Knowing that my turn to let my little ones leave the nest is not far away. But today, spending time with her I know that this change is necessary one. Good things come from it.

Chicken Nuggies

I made this last night for dinner. I had forgotten how good they were. And how much my fam loves them. The recipe comes from my long time friend Karen. I should have taken a pic. Oh well, there were not any left on the plate that is for sure!

Chicken Nuggets:

[i usually double]

3 chicken breast, washed. trimmed and cut into nice sized chunks.
1 egg beaten
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup flour
1 tsp. accent seasoning
1/2 tsp.salt
2 good tsp. of sesame seeds
Mix all this up in shallow dish

Heat enough oil up in a skillet, test a piece of batter dipped chicken to see if it is bubbly.
Take your chicken pieces, dip them into batter and fry, yes I know. But it is good. You fry them in a skillet. Let them get nice and golden on one side then turn over and do the same.

Place them on a cookie sheet or plate with paper towels.

We like ours with ranch, or bbq sauce.

The Grinch's Candlestick Holder

This is really fun!
With a glitter pillar candle
I am loving this, I know I say that all the time but that is because I only make what I would buy myself. So that makes it so where I really love everything I make. If I don't love it, I work on it until I love it! Take this piece for example, I originally did this for Halloween, but it just didn't work, tried out fall on it, nope not that either. Finally last night I got this whim to spray paint it, add my new favorite kitchsy glitter poinsettia's and it turned out really fun. I can't decide to put an ornament on top or a glitter candle. What do you think?

Merry Merry Christmas!

Aqua and Red Candlesticks
So fun altogether!

Aqua and Green Christmas.............

Vintage Candlesticks
I was just reading today at Allsorts, [a blog listed on my sidebar] and they were talking about an aqua and green Christmas. At a boutique I went to last week, the decorations, signs and bags were all aqua and green. This must be all the fancy this year. How wonderful, these colors compliment each other so well. These wooden candlesticks are old, but I didn't like the dark wood color they were. So I painted them antique white, added a glitzy tiny poinsettia with a splash of ribbon. And well, they turned out fabulous! Hurry if you want them, a little birdie told me they would go fast!

Month for Thanks.............

My heart is full.

It was a wonderful, busy, weekend. We have extra children with us this weekend so our house was a beehive buzzing with activity all weekend long.

Friday night was brisk and rainy as we took a little jaunt to our ward campout to join our ward family for some chili and good conversation by the fire. Then we cheated and snuck back home to sleep in our toasty warm beds. That is what has become of us since we became city folk, we are a little wimpy when it comes to sleeping out in the dessert.

Saturday morning arrived all to soon. My little guy Corm had Lacrosse game. He scored 2 goals, it was sunny, cool and so fun to watch.

We had date night, it went a little awry. We improvised and came home and watched a movie upstairs without the company of the kids. That was nice.

Sunday came. I found myself sitting in church with 9 children. NINE! They were so cute, and so quiet, for a moment I wished they were all mine. But just for one moment. I was all to happy to accommodate the little boy sitting next to me who asked me to take him to the potty.[he is only 3] My heart melted. He knows he has me wrapped around his little finger.

My favorite part of the weekend though was when a phone call came, just after dinner. I was able to talk for over an hour to someone who can out talk me on the phone. I haven't talked to her in a long time. Too long, I am afraid to admit. I was glad she called, she is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world. It was nice, comforting and went by way to fast. It is good that I get to see her in 2 weeks.

I love you Lor, thanks for calling.

Roller Coaster part 2

Thursday, November 12, 2009

Month for Thanks............Day, well I stopped counting.

Do you remember the movie Parenthood?

At the end the sweet little ol' Grandma rambles on about life and such. She compared life to that of a merry-go-round and a roller coaster. She said life is more like the roller coaster it has ups and downs, highs and lows. You hold on for the ride, you can't have the highs without the lows. I love that part in that movie.

Would I rather have the slow and steady ride of the merry-go-round? Or the fast paced ride of the roller coaster? Sometimes I think I would prefer the merry-go-round, it would be easier that is for sure. But ya know, call me crazy but I think this roller coaster that I am on is pretty amazing. I hoping one day it will all be worth it. I guess for that, I am grateful.

I wish you could see this better! I am loving it. [i say that about everything] But I really do! Just some repo vintage paper, tinsel, bottle brush trees with 2 ornaments hanging from inside the box. The box is an old drawer that I distressed and painted. This is such a unique decoration. I know the price is high but it is worth EVERY penny! Truly one of a kind and made with love!

****I forgot to mention the handmade vintage doilie that sits on top that I found in a antique store in Globe. I knew when I saw it, I would have good use for it someday! XOXO

Christmas Tea Light Candle Jar
This little jar is not one bit old, but when I saw it the other day it reminded me of a larger version of the old fashioned Victorian candle holders. It is so cute, and as always ONE OF A KIND and made with love!

Another Blissfest find, I bought a couple of these jars, I LOVE how this turned out! Oh my goodness! Is it just me or is this the cutest? It looks right out of my Country Living magazine! Love you!

Vintage Silver Bowl
Shiney Brite Ornaments
**** I am so in love with this! I am so pleased with how it turned out! I found this bowl at last weekends BlissFest, and I had to have it just for this reason! And yes, the ornaments are true vintage, out of their original Shiney Brite box that I have been clinging on too for "just the right thing". Ohhhhhh, I can't wait to see who gets this, you may just have to pry it out of my hands! Love to you all, Amie

Month for Thanks......Day 7

Stephanie and Christian Nielsen.
When I awoke this morning I thought "I wonder if I am going to get to meet Nie Nie today". I am truly grateful for this sweet woman and the difference she has made in my life.
Here is the story.......
So this weekend was the weekend of Amie. I spent last evening with my girlfriends at a boutique that was so much fun! I didn't buy anything except guitar pick earrings for Meg for Christmas. But then I gave them to her early cause she was having a hard day. Anywho, back to the story. I saved my money for today, today was Blissfest. Blissfest is amazing. It is in downtown Mesa. It is really heaven for those who love beat up treasures, each with a story of their own to tell. I love it. My family loves it and my friends love it. It is just...........indescribable.
So last years Blissfest was in honor of Stephanie Nielsen. The amazing woman/blogger who was in a horrible plane crash in August 2008. She used to live down here in Mesa but moved back to Provo Utah to be closer with her family. Her story has changed me. I came across her blog not to long after her accident and spent hours reading past posts laughing and crying. She just makes life seem precious. And that was before her accident. Her stories of her children and her love for her husband are so fun and inspiring. I am sure I am among thousands of adoring fans when I say I truly love this woman. I followed her recovery through her sisters blog, CJane until January of 2009 when Stephanie started blogging on Nie, Nie again. She is my morning cup of coffee. I get up, fix breakfast and lunches get out my laptop and sit down to Nie and Cjane. When reading them I always feel inspired. I feel like being and doing my best for the day. I just love them. Especially Stephanie.
So you can imagine today when standing in a boutique and glanced over and saw Stephanie's husband Christain. I knew Stephanie had to be close by. I looked at my friend Meliss and said that I had to go see her, Meliss agreed and we did. My little Maddie came too, we were the first ones to greet her so she wasn't inundated with people yet. I wanted to just hug her but I was afraid I would hurt her. She is a little fragile, but you know what? She hugged me, I didn't even have to say anything she just gave me the biggest hug. Then the diarrhea of the mouth set in and I couldn't shut up. I just talked and talked. I told her that I would rather hug her and talk to her than any other celebrity. And that was the truth. Now hear this: Those of you that know me KNOW how much I love Brad Pitt. But I wouldn't have traded this little encounter with this beautiful couple than a whole evening spent with Brangelina. I truly mean it. Meliss was crying, I was crying. I am sure we were scaring the pee out of them. But they endured and we were fulfilled. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. If you aren't a fan of Nie's check out her blog, there is a button on my side bar. you wont be sorry. I am grateful for Stephanie, she really is the most beautiful person I have ever met. It was a good day{spoken in my amazing Scottish accent}!

Month for Thanks...............Day 6

[need I say more]
PS: I do have a few new things to post, I need to go get modge podge and blue thread. So hopefully today I can get them up! Love, me

Month for Thanks..........Day 5

Mesa Arizona Temple
Today has been a hard day. My girls have been kind of rough and moody. I don't want to complain but in all my heart is a little heavy. So I have honestly been trying to come up with something I am grateful for and although I do have many blessings. Nothing is jumping out at me. Than it hit me.
Today I needed to have a lot of FAITH to follow through with the day's responsibilities. To smile at others, to forgive. That sometimes is a hard one for me, to just say it's ok. I love you. Sometimes I don't want to forgive but my faith tells me I need to.
So I do.
I put a picture of our Temple here in Mesa. I love this place, it brings me much comfort and peace. It seemed like a good representation of my faith. Yes, today the one thing I am grateful for that is there for me regardless of my mood. Is my FAITH. Thank you. I needed this today.

Jack loves me. He is one of the sweetest little boys I know, I love him.
Whenever I see Jack I can count on him to give me a huge big love. [I love it] It always make me happy to see Jack.
Today I am especially grateful for Jack. I am so glad I moved to Arizona so I could know this sweet little spirit.

Month for Thanks....................Day 3

Arlington National Cemetery

I have just finished a series of books about World War II. Although they were historical fiction I really loved learning about the war and the ultimate sacrifice that so many gave for this country and our freedom.

We live in amazing times. But to get to this point so much was given. So many lives lost. I need to show more respect for those who are serving our country today. I need to remember them in my prayers. I need my children to stand in awe when we get the opportunity to see a member of the armed forces. I need to be grateful every single day for the sacrifices made so I can live in this land of the free.

There are a lot of things wrong out there, I admit but there are a lot more things out there that are right. Our freedom is one of those things that is right. There is no doubt about it. Thank you.

Month for Thanks.........Day 2

Norma Lee and Gus
As you may have guessed along with posting super cute creations this month. I am going to try and feature something or someone I am grateful for every day.
So today, November 2nd 2oo9 I am especially grateful for my mom. Norma. I have called her that since I was about 12. Some people think that is weird but it seems normal for me. When I am with her I just say "Norm" and she answers. That is just the way it is between us.
How do I express thanks for this amazing woman? Well it is not easy to try to put all that I feel in my heart into words. But here it goes:
My mom taught me to love all of God's creations. To be tender to all living things. [Except for earwigs] This ability brings huge burdens to the tender hearted and she taught me to deal with that as well. She taught me to help the needy and stick up for the underdog. Thus being why we had an endless stream of homeless pets and people all throughout my childhood. Most of them bringing with them memories and stories to remember for the rest of my life.
My mom taught me to embrace my creativity. My Dad [who may just get his own day :)] was all business when it came to my grades, but my mom seemed to know I was trying and that I had many very important qualities about me. They just weren't coming in the form of A's and B's in school. When coming to my mom this past summer about my new idea to start mamie's treasures. She was so supportive and we shared ideas off of each other and we still do. I love that about her.
My mom is probably the most passionate person I know. She is no nonsense when it comes to improving yourself and making your situation better especially when it comes to your body and health. I know it is hard on her to see me struggle with my weight but she doesn't give up on me. She is always willing to listen to me and wants to help me wherever she can.
There is so much more to say about her. She is an amazing grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, caretaker and friend. I am so glad she got to raise me. I am so thankful for you mom. You are the best. I love you.

Rice for Breakfast?

Ok, I admit this doesn't look very yummy. But it is one of my kids favorite breakfasts. As a kid my mom would take leftover rice from the dinner the night before and oil to a skillet and brown the rice until it would get some crispies. Then she would crack a few eggs on top of it and scramble them into the rice. When it is all cooked and not too gooey she would salt and pepper it and add some cheese.

Well needless to say we had rice for dinner and rice for breakfast. Ahhhh, it is going to be a great day.

Month for Thanks..........

I saw this video on Nie Nie the other day and loved it. I wanted to share it and refer back to it often to help me during this month.

I am grateful today for my family, namely my children.[Scott deserves his own day] However much they stress me out. However much they conserve all their dirty clothes on their floors for the week then dump them all in the laundry hamper Saturday morning.

They love me. They forgive me easily. They think I am pretty. They give me kisses even if it is just on the cheek. They are my greatest creations and my most amazing achievements. Thank you Heavenly Father for lending me these children. I hope they get home to you in one piece.

I posted this on a Sunday evening. However this morning the same anonymous child of mine who dumped a TON of dirty clothes on me on Saturday is yelling at me that she CAN NOT take over 5 minutes to get a pair of socks in the basket! Hmmmmm me thinks she needs to do her own laundry. Lesson learned? I hope so.
